About Us

Rich Ambrose attended an investor's conference in Central America to explore the world of impact investing.

He was excited about the idea of supporting companies that combined commerce and the private sector to scale their impact in the region while still generating profits. Impressed by the entrepreneurs he encountered, he joined forces with Mark Jacobson and launched Pomona Impact, providing financing to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Central America.

Rich made the decision to transform his passion project into a sustainable business.

He returned to his native Guatemala, adjusted his investment strategy to pursue both impact and market-rate returns, and secured a $1 million loan from the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) and an additional $1 million from friends and family to expand Pomona’s Pilot Fund.

Pomona also established the Pomona Impact Foundation with the objective of supporting small and growing businesses (SGBs) in preparing for investor engagement and accessing capital to scale their operations.

The Foundation has successfully implemented acceleration and incubation programs, serving over 140 entrepreneurs, with a primary focus on agriculture, food systems, and green technology. These programs have resulted in over $5 million of investment. The Foundation operates independently, with Rich Ambrose serving on its board of directors.

In early 2017, Daniel Granada joined Rich, and together they utilized the Pilot Fund to invest across various sectors and countries, primarily using mezzanine debt instruments.

Drawing from their combined 30 years of experience investing in Central America and leveraging the insights gained from the Pilot Fund, they developed the investment thesis for the new Pomona Impact Fund II.
